It's a weird one-off once again! Lizzie talks with Marty O'Connell of Radio DePaul and Connor Skelly of Beyond The Music about the disappointment Lollapalooza has turned out to be this year (seemingly). We also have our first ticket giveaway!
"It's kinda of a cliche thing to be like, 'oh I started goin' and it wasn't as good'-but ever since then, I feel it's gotten more and more to like the general pop, EDM, hip-hop genre." says General Manager of Radio DePaul, Marty O'Connell.
Lollapalooza has a history of selling out passes in under 10 minutes. However, the past two years have sturggled with ticket sales. Last years fest had tickets avaliable day of. This year they haven't even sold out-nearly two months after the line-up announcement.
So what's Lolla doing wrong? Or it could be we as music fiends are too overwhelmed by the plethora of music festivals to choose from.
Beyond the Music founder Connor Skelly says, "This is both a good and bad thing about Lollapalooza, and Bonaroo and Coachella. All these large festivals that appeal to a wide range of audiences," he begins, "It's great that they do that, it gets a lot of people together to appreciate music, but I think it also works to their detriment."
So, what's the future for music festivals like Lolla? Tune-in to find out!
We also are doing our VERY FIRST TICKET GIVEAWAY! Thanks to our friends at Out of Context/Get2TheGig! Also listen to see how to enter.
